Want to Know A Secret?

Everyone has secrets. Some of those secrets should stay buried.
Going in, I had my standards already set high considering that Freida McFadden is a fairly well-known author for this particular genre, and also because I have thoroughly enjoyed her previous titles.
Dark, twisty and suspenseful, I mostly enjoyed Want to Know a Secret? which carries Freida's usual gripping, tongue-biting delightful use of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know more.
Want to Know a Secret? most definitely starts off slower than the other novels that I have read by Freida, but what starts off slow may catch you unsuspecting... as this quickly speeds up in pace into the typical sort of "popcorn" theme that Freida often uses... and I myself was caught quite off guard by who I thought was the culprit , and then being completely thrown for a loop once more... which I find utterly delightful whenever it comes to these sorts of novels.
I do wish that this carried less of a Mean Girls sort of vibe... as I found this and the way that the characters seemed to always be a bit full of themselves in a sort of oh I have to defend myself, so of course I have to be a petty insert rude word here" sort of fashion to be rather off-putting.. Now this isn't to say that I don't like when characters hold vendettas or want to dislike other characters... because that's completely valid... but this just seemed like too much at times, especially with the additional context that these women are parents and supposed to be friends with each other. Like come on...
Overall, this is still a great read. It is not my favorite from Freida and definitely had a few moments (ok, perhaps more than a few if we're being honest) where I questioned the logic of things or the decisions made by characters. But this still left my jaw on the floor in a most delightful way, and I will definitely be recommending this title to my other mystery-loving friends.
