One year ago, her elder sister left their kingdom of Tashir in chains...
Bound to the rival kingdom of Vanzador to serve as their captive bride to their heir...
Dead by a fall from one of Vanzador's cliffs... or so the Prince and King of Vanzador say when they return to Tashir with Rowenna's coffin.
And now Indira hesitantly agrees to be the Prince's second wife,to replace her sister... because she knows that Rowenna would not just fall off a cliff due to some accident... there's something more... and she is determined to discover it, even if it means burning Vanzador to the ground so that Tashir may thrive...
But even as she and her new husband Alaric grow closer....and their feelings blossom...as Indira learns more of Vanzador, of their traditions, and of what truly happened to her sister... she does not know who to believe... and what information can be trusted...
Tense... and utterly delicious at the same time, Burn the Kingdom Down is unlike any other enemies-to-lovers I have read before.... While there are plenty of other good enemies-to-lovers, none do something that had me gasping at every page and with every single bit of knowledge that we learned as the story progressed... it made me feel so alive and so invested that I was struggling to not wake up the rest of the people in my house as I read... no more so devoured this novel...
Addie has far outdone herself, and her talent for writing shows in Burn the Kingdom Down... there are not many novels that will make you gasp and feel the characters' feelings almost as if you are also living in the world, living in the spur of the moment with every chapter...realizing the betrayals, uncovering the secrets of the Vanzadorians... and the realization that everyone is holding on to their own dangerous secrets...
Secrets that might result in Indira's doom... all at the same time as she is trying to adjust to her life as the replacement captive bride ever since her sister's tragic fate.... or perhaps it is not so tragic after all...
Goodness, this is one of SEVERAL books that will have me reeling for quite some time... and something that will always linger in the back of my mind, ready to haunt my thoughts....
