Welcome to Aravell.
This is a city where not only secrets lurk in, but danger is around every corner. Reapers steal magic in their constant thirst for more power. And the blackmist lingers over all. To touch the blackmist means death.
All her life Viridia Solace has been trained to hunt the reapers...but despite her best efforts their ranks continue to swell with more members...led by a man that she despises known as the Reaper Priest. The man who murdered her parents.
But when the Reaper Priest's most loyal follower gets captured and then offers her a deal to avenge her parents... she can't take it ... right? In fact, Reeve should be the last one she trusts... considering who he is and who he is affiliated with.... and yet Viridia does exactly that... laying her life on the line for the silver-tongued reaper. Will he keep his word? Or will her secrets cause her to break?
Wow... just... wow... where would I even begin.
I had never even read any of Lynette Noni's works before Shadow Reaper, and now I will definitely have to because my mind was absolutely blown away in the best of ways...there is something that is so lush and so alive about the world... about how it pulls you in, and you find out more and more about the world as you read.
And omg... don't even get me started about the magic system.... to be in a world where one has magic but has to provide it to help shield the city from the looming threat of the blackmist? It provides even more to the sense of ever-lurking danger that exists in Aravell, and the reminder that everything could be destroyed in a moment's notice.
As if this wasn't already a delicious combination of elements, Lynette Noni then incorporates a delicious series of twists and turns...and the perfect touch of romance to finish off Shadow Reaper.
This was such a delicious, engaging, fantastical read, and I so want to know more about not only this world and the magic that it has, but also more of the characters... and not just the main ones. I cannot wait to see what happens in the second novel of this duology, and until then... I will promptly go lose myself in the rest of Lynette's masterful writing.
