Gritty, twisty, and utterly delightful... from the talented desk of C.S. Harris comes the long-awaited book 21 of the Sebastian St. Cyr series...
London, 1816
When an infamous young aristocrat is burned on a hill popular with neo-Druids...Sebastian St. Cyr Viscount Devlin finds himself plunged into an intense investigation like no other... steeped in a dark mystery shaded in not only murder, but ancient human sacrifice... and secrets that linger in shadows...
For this is not just any ordinary investigation.
The person who has been murdered was the only heir and son to a prominent nobleman. Not only that, but his closest friend is Bayard... Sebastian's own nephew... who claims to have passed out drunk right before his friend was murdered...and therefore has no memory of the incident. As Sebastian and his wife, Hero, delve more into the case and uncover more details... it may be that Bayard knows more than he is willing to give out... and is not as innocent as he says he is.
And this may not be just some ordinary case of murder...as two of Bayard's friends then show up dead... the case only grows to be more convoluted, more twisted with each detail that unfolds... and as the trail bounces back from one person to another ... it seems as though someone is staging these murders for one reason... and one reason only... revenge.
As with any book in this series, this is a dark, twisty and fast-paced novel that is engaging, and will keep you at the edge of your seat until the very end. C.S. Harris truly has a wonderful way of incorporating the fictional into the real... and distinguishing those elements through her author's notes. This was an absolute delight to read ... and I look forward to devouring the next masterpiece that C.S. Harris comes out with.
