Anequs has survived her first year at Kuiper's Academy.... not only survived but she has thrived and thoroughly exceeded her professors' admittedly low expectations... passing all of her courses with honors. Now she is headed home with her dragon, Kasagua, and with the only other native student, Theod, and his dragon, Copper.
What starts off as a seemingly normal break quickly devolves into something much darker.... when Anequs returns home with Theod, they find Anglish in Masquapaug, for the first time ever...due to Anequs's notoriety and for her actions in saving the jarl. And Anequs does not like the idea of the Anglish being in her home.
She will fight for what she believes in, for her people's right to self-govern and to have control over their lands, their customs, and what they believe in... even if that means igniting a civil war.
Giving off Elder Scrolls vibes, what started as a 4 star quickly rose to a 4 and a half stars, and then quickly rose to 5 stars, as I fell more and more in love with the story as it progressed. This is a powerful story of resistance, of resilience, and being proud of who you are. Add in dragons, and Moniquill has truly spun a fantastic tale that has made this second book even better... and I look forward to the next book in the series.
