For all intents and purposes, we are still blissfully separated from the mortals, but there have been... complications...

Kiki has all but created a masterpiece, skillfully blending elements of mystery and secrets, fantasy, and just the right amount of humor to create an amazing cozy mystery perfect to read on a long road trip, or on one of those rainy days...

First off, can I say that the version of London that the author has created is beautiful, and I would like to live there ASAP. (Like, hello? Free Tube? Yes please.)

Our changeling main character, Avery, is pulled from prison by none other than the Winter Prince after a series of supernatural crimes plague London. Being both Fey and Mundane, she has a foot in both worlds... but will she be able to solve the case? Or will she be plunged back to being trapped under that sleep spell as her prison once more...

With our main characters Avery & Saga, her next-door baker and tea-loving friend, who becomes her partner-in-crime as they attempt to unravel the cases... to Saga's uncle... Inspector Lahiri, and with loveable references to a certain Sherlock Holmes... (if you know what 221 Baker Street is, this novel will also be right up your alley...)

With the split viewpoints, that perfect twist of slow-burn romance... Kiki has come up with the perfect recipe (or perhaps... brew is a better word here?) to ensure her book will succeed.

It has mystery, it has moments that will make your grin and being able to see Avery go from what she knew back before she was sentenced to getting to know life in London now.... to the footnotes at the end of every chapter giving you neat little facts on historical discoveries, translations, neat comments and mythological facts... this is a book that I will definitely be turning back to as the autumn leaves begin to shift colors again.
