Mary has always loved fossils.

That love stemmed from her father, who gave up his old life to devote himself to fossils.

And Mary has always desired to become a geomagician.

Except there is one small problem. The geomagicial society of London has never fully allowed a woman to join their ranks as an equal.

So our dear Mary is stuck selling her fantastical fossil discoveries off to tourists for a living... until she discovers an ancient pterodactyl egg, and that egg then somehow hatches in her possession... revealing a very cute, and very adorable baby pterodactyl. She names him Ajax and realizes that with her own living pterodactyl could make her dream career come true... as long as she is cautious.

However, contacting the Society leads to problems she didn't foresee when they demand to take ownership of Ajax, sending non-other than her ex-Henry Stanton in an attempt to obtain Ajax.

She learns she cannot trust her peers, and in turn, must question whether this is the path that she truly wants...

Let me start off by saying this cover is GORGEOUS. The cream background with the colorful accents on the dino bones and the plants surrounding the titles and the photo in the center is so simple and yet makes it so complex and so beautiful at the same time.

The inner paleontology nerd within me was super happy to see so many neat facts about dinosaurs and fossils slotted into these amazing pages. However, I had some issues with the locations in which some of these were slotted, for at times it seemed like it was random, or didn't quite exactly fit where it was. Some parts of this book could be smoothed out more for better consistency. Some of the characters could've been more explained or with deeper stories, but overall, I still thoroughly enjoyed The Geomagician and I am looking forward to the sequel!
