Ex hoc momento pendet aeternitas.
The thrilling German dark academia romantasy makes its stunning debut in a wonderfully done translation by the equally talented Caroline Waight....
Starling Nights is dreamy, atmospheric... and absolutely everything. If you are looking for something that hums like a siren does to draw their victim in... but think of it as more comforting like a soft microfleece or a hot mug of hot chocolate on a cool winter evening.... There is mystery, there is magic, character development and emotion, and there is a beautiful sort of romance that burns in a sort of way that only fiction can pull off... slow, and utterly teasing till the end...
The pacing is pulled off flawlessly... but I believe I was most drawn in by the absolutely amazing world that Merit has created.... a world that feels alive ... and deliciously gothic.
I adored the academic setting.... because after all, who isn't captivated by the thought of a school with its own dark society .... Especially considering there are universities with their own secret societies in real life... if you know what I mean.
This is the kind of novel that will leave you thinking for months after... the kind of novel that will leave you spellbound... if I can say it like that, of course.
