Dark, intensely provocative... and with a story that is much deeper than what it initially seems... Adrienne Young has not only created another masterpiece...but a world that will pull you in... consume you with its intense lore...
From the moment I began reading, I almost felt like I myself was in its pages, wandering within the streets of this conflicted, war-torn world... experiencing the events as they unfolded... the events of loss, of rebellion... of impossible choices made that cause more conflicts... Young's talented hands spin an intimate tale between our main characters... Luca... and our Magistrate, Maris... one marred by longing, soft and slow... but also one marred with betrayal, war, and death.
The worldbuilding is absolutely stunning, from the introduction of a pantheon at the beginning, to the conflicts ... to the promise of whispered secrets...This book had me wrapped in its beautifully complex, emotional tale until the heart-stopping end. It is a tale of love, a tale of loss, and of having the desire to fight for something much bigger than yourself.
And now that I've finished it.... when's book two? I'll be anxiously waiting for the second novel... because I am absolutely hooked on finding out what happens with Luca and Maris...
